When It's In the Name It's What You Order

Case in point, The Chicken House outside of Sellersburg, Indiana. It had been on my radar for years and in August, 2025 I was finally able to visit. It was a Thursday and I got there just before it opened at 11am, and I'll bet there were at least 10 other cars already in the parking lot.

Did I think to inquire about the history of the original house? No, I did not. Probably because I was laser-focused on stuffing my face.

I was seated in the newer part of the restaurant. Normally I use a 35mm film camera for photography but this shot was surreptitiously taken with my iPhone. See the senior citizens in the far booth? They watched me - ok, darn near gave me the evil eye - a lot and I had a pretty strong feeling that they wouldn't want to be in a traditional photo. And I wasn't too keen on taking the chance of getting whacked with a cane or a purse full of butterscotch hard candies.

Revisit the title of this post. Three piece, dark, with mashed potatoes and green beans. Sunday Dinner for Thursday Lunch.

The star of the show, of course.

Southeastern Indiana has some fine chicken eatin' places and The Chicken House is no exception (think of it as Joe Huber's more casual cousin). Hot, crispy, juicy, well-seasoned...it was a winner all the way around, and the sides were excellent as well. The service was great and the lead waitress (chicken joints have waitresses, not servers) struck up a friendly conversation when the staff noticed my camera. To quote the famous Sheriff Buford T. Justice, "thank you nice lady."

I would - no, I will - absolutely return to The Chicken House someday if given the chance. And I encourage you to enjoy a meal there as well. And I also encourage you to use the word "surreptitiously" from time to time.

Nice job. I love how hesitant you are to take photos inside. Just the opposite of me! I was going to ask if you considered Joe Huber's, but it looks like they're closed at least temporarily according to Google.
