Dam Chicken

A few years ago I made a concerted effort to go out for fried chicken at least once a month. Over time I began to run out of relatively nearby places to visit so my trips began to become more infrequent, and then 2020 came along. Screeching halt.
But now I'm starting to get out a little bit more and am hoping to once again indulge in the joy of fried (deep and pan!) poultry, and to that end I paid a visit to Dam Chicken in Beaver Dam, WI at the end of December.

It's a refurbished older building downtown but unfortunately I didn't get a shot of the interior, which features a semi-open kitchen and the open-ceiling, semi-industrial look. In hindsight I should've sat at a table instead of the counter, where I could've taken a photo unobserved.
But let's move on to the real reason I was there:

I went with the "Nashville Medium" chicken because felt like having a little bit of heat, and while there was some there it was actually closer to what I would consider mild. But the skin was nicely crisp and the meat was juicy and lightly seasoned, with the chicken flavor coming through clearly. The garlic mashed potatoes and gravy were solid and I also enjoyed the green beans and red potato pieces, a combination I hadn't seen before.
Beaver Dam's about an hour away so I don't get up there too often, but if I was closer I'd likely stop in at Dam Chicken from time to time. At the very least, perhaps this summer I'll make the drive some nice day and explore the menu a little more.
