My very first post! At the end of April I made the annual trip to Des Moines for the Drake Relays, and as I like to do I picked out a couple of places to eat along the way.

First up was the Dairy Kone in Jesup, Iowa. I ordered a breaded pork tenderloin sandwich (hereafter known as a BPT) and it was decent. Unfortunately the photo didn't turn out so I don't have anything to tweak my memory, but here's a shot of the building.

The next day I started with a visit to The Chicken in what once was Orilla and is now West Des Moines. It bills itself as a "classic roadhouse" and certainly has that feel.

I was the first customer of the day and while the chicken was very good, the sides weren't quite up to temp and that was a little disappointing.

Crispy, juicy deliciousness!

By the time I finished lunch I was pretty full, but because sometimes my stomach thinks it's 35 years younger than it actually is I didn't see any reason to not stop at Kue'd Smokehouse in Waukee.

Yes, I literally bit off more than I could chew. This beef back rib was one of the specials that day and I managed to eat about a third of it before throwing in the greasy towel. It was very good (crusty and juicy, although a little more smoke would've been nice) so I saved the rest for some late night snacking.

The trip home was uneventful and devoid of any road-style food (inside joke) so my first post ends here. Thanks for reading!
