Grilled Cheese

When done right, a simple grilled cheese sandwich is truly one of the finest culinary delights on the planet. And it all starts with the cheese, and what better place to find cheese than at a cheese factory? Decatur Dairy in Brodhead, WI has been a fixture at the biennial Cheese Days festival in Monroe for many years, but why wait for 2 years to get a GCS? Just go straight to the dairy!

Last April I had day off so I decided to make the drive to Brodhead for lunch. The store is pretty small and it was surprisingly crowded for a weekday, so I was unable to get a photo of the interior.

I'm pretty sure I ordered the "3 Mousketeer" with the special sauce. There are no bread options; all sandwiches are made with regular white bread.

Let's take a closer look!

It wasn't just good...it was exceptional! The cheese was perfectly melted and the bread toasted up just right; in hindsight I should've eschewed the Mrs. Mike's potato chips (delicious in their own right) in favor of another sandwich. In fact, I'd planned to go back again last year but somehow time got away from me and that visit never materialized. But it'll happen this year for sure!
